Victorinox, the company behind the Swiss product, is responding to tightening gun regulations around the world with the bladeless Swiss army knife, CEO Carl Elsener told Blick newspaper on Monday. Instead of blades, he plans to add tools and other features for cyclists the knife, which usually has both scissors and a corkscrew.

We are concerned about the violence in the world and the increasing regulation of knives

Elsener said, citing laws in the UK and Asian countries that only allow carrying a knife for work or outdoor activities.

Victorinox pocket knives became famous when American soldiers brought them home as souvenirs after World War II. The company has been manufacturing in Switzerland since 1897 and supplies equipment to the Swiss Army and NASA.

Victorinox exports about 80% of its Swiss-made knives and watches. In response to the exchange rate of the Swiss franc, it raised prices by 9% and intends to rely more on automation in the future, said the CEO.
