The collision occurred before half past three in the afternoon at the Kino Luna tram stop on Vyškovická street in Ostrava-Zábřeh.

“Based on initial information, the woman was crossing the pedestrian crossing over the tram belt at the time when the tram was passing by,” said police spokeswoman Eva Michalíková.

A woman trapped under a car after a collision with a tram in Ostrava was freed by firefighters with the help of high-pressure lifting bags.

During the accident, the woman got between the tram and the boarding island and had both legs under the tram. Firefighters had to be called to free her.

“They used high-pressure lifting bags with which they lifted the tram and pulled the woman out,” described the woman’s rescue, Moravian-Silesian fire department spokesman Lukáš Popp, who added that the firemen managed to free the woman from under the tram in 10 minutes.

Paramedics described the woman’s injuries as serious. “The attending doctor discovered that she had suffered very serious injuries to both lower limbs,” informed the spokesman for Moravian-Silesian rescuers Lukáš Humpl, adding that the crews of the medical rescue service gave the patient oxygen, medicines, treated her injuries and fixed her in a vacuum mattress.

“The injured woman was transported to the emergency department of the Ostrava University Hospital in a serious condition,” he added.
