The feminist collective Les Metzines and the Socialist Youth Organization have publicly denounced a case of tevents to a student by a professor at the Faculty of Medicine University of Girona (UdG). The victim felt “raped” because of the situation and contacted the entities, who asked the university to act. According to what they have stated, the UdG decided separate the teacher of the activity that affects the student, but “has not offered any other support.” In this sense, both the student and the entities criticize the lack of “accompaniment” in this case. “The victim contacted us because she was not protecting herself,” the entities say.

To “respond” to the aggression, both groups have called for a open meeting this friday at eleven in the morning in the stands of the Campus Centre. The Metzines and the Socialist Youth Organization consider that “feminism has been institutionalized, also in universities, through symbolic measures, but that universities and other institutions continue to be complicit in the attacks.”

Other cases

In this sense, they detail that some of the tools that the UdG has been equipped with are the Gender Equality Unit or an Equality Plan. “We believe that any response that does not question and seek to overcome the material bases on which gender relations occur is impotent,” they say in a statement.

This is not the first case that affects the UdG. In February, the university’s Feminist Platform already publicly denounced two cases of sexual harassment by a professor of the master’s degree in Teaching Spanish and Català with Segones Llengües.
