In April the situation looks much worse. Only until the middle of the month, the price growth rate was 3.2%.

The authors of the report indicate that high-profile campaigns by Biedronka, Lidl and the Kaufland chain ensuring that product prices will remain unchanged despite the increase in the VAT rate on food, they may just be a marketing gimmick. However, more precise conclusions can only be drawn in the coming weeks.

As for the declarations of the largest supermarket chains in Poland: Biedronka assured that in April it “will not change the regular prices of over 4,000 products”. However, as part of the STOP VAT campaign, Lidl declared that in April it would leave the prices of 1,600 products at the level before the VAT rate increases.

“Rzeczpospolita” reports that promotions in stores will end at the end of the month, which will result in price increases. Moreover, the situation on global markets also influences the pace of price growth in Poland. And it may turn out that the stores will be expensive again. Maybe, but still not necessarily.
