(CNN)– said a well-informed diplomat Negotiations on a ceasefire in Gaza And the hostages were released, to the network CNNThe Hamas movement rejected the latest Israeli proposal presented earlier this week.

The diplomat added: “They refused and confirmed that it does not include any response to their requests,” and continued: “Hamas believes that the Israeli proposal does not include anything new, so they do not see the need to change their proposal.”

The diplomat stated that the Israeli proposal that was sent to Hamas earlier this week “does not accept two main demands of Hamas: the unrestricted return of Gaza residents to the north and the withdrawal of Israeli army forces.”

For his part, senior Hamas leader Osama Hamdan said on Thursday that their position has not changed since these two main demands were handed over to the mediators on March 14.

He added that the last round of negotiations held in Egypt this week “did not result in any progress.”

The diplomat said that Israel continues to insist on allowing inspections for those heading north, and on not redeploying the Israeli army away from central Gaza.

CIA Director William Burns, Mossad Director David Barnea, and Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar are scheduled to meet in Egypt this weekend to continue negotiations, according to two sources.

Barnea, Bar and Burns met last month in Doha to hold talks with mediators, but no clear breakthrough was reached.

Hamas and Israel have failed for months to agree on a three-stage framework that seeks to release hostages held by Hamas in exchange for a six-week ceasefire, the release of Palestinians from Israeli prisons, and an increase in humanitarian aid to Gaza.
