A worker met a tragic end early Friday afternoon in the port of Montreal.
The fatal work accident occurred a little after 1:30 p.m., at Terminal Viau, located at the corner of rue Notre-Dame Est and rue Viau.

According to our information, the victim had his head crushed by a heavy weight. No resuscitation maneuvers were attempted. It was an obvious death.
However, the circumstances of this tragic accident remain unknown. The victim is believed to be a truck driver, whose age has not been specified.

Reached by telephone, the director of communications for the Port of Montreal did not want to provide further information about this event.
However, she mentioned that psychological support would be offered to people on site who feel the need “as is always the case during an event of this type.”

The investigation aimed at clarifying the circumstances of the tragedy will be carried out by the Commission for Standards, Equity, Health and Safety at Work (CNESST).

Terminal Viau, where the accident occurred, is the Port of Montreal’s newest container terminal, with an area of 38.4 hectares, according to the port’s website. It has been in operation since 2016.
