The R21/Matrix-M vaccine is manufactured in India by the Open, identified as the world’s largest vaccine producer. At a cost of 3 euros per dose, the vaccine has seen significant uptake, with tens of millions of doses distributed across a dozen countries. Hill emphasizes that the vaccine is part of a broader, concerted public health strategy that includes the use of insecticide-treated nets, spray campaigns, and sustained funding.

The development process relied heavily on international cooperation. Hill specifically credited African medical teams who conducted essential studies in Burkina Faso, Mali, Kenya, and Tanzania, noting that these contributions were vital to the vaccine’s success.
