Distance Provides‍ Clarity

The physical distance from the⁢ United States ⁣has provided Bullard with a new clarity. He now recognizes the fragility of the‍ political order and the speed ‍with which ⁢circumstances can change. This realization has been both enlightening and concerning.

Finding Relief and Uncertainty

Originally from‍ Illinois, Bullard expresses relief at no longer being directly involved in covering U.S. politics. He found the constant barrage of news and the intensity of the political environment emotionally draining.

“I still don’t quite understand why all of this is happening.”

Despite his distance, he admits to still grappling with understanding the forces driving the changes he observes. “I still catch myself thinking about how I would cover a story, and ⁢then I realize: I’m so‍ glad I don’t have to deal ⁢with ⁢it ⁤editorially. Because honestly: I still don’t quite understand why all of this⁢ is happening.”

A New Chapter: Journalism⁢ in Switzerland

Bullard⁤ now works as a freelance‍ journalist in Switzerland, focusing on culture, art, and emerging technologies. He primarily writes for english-language publications in the U.S. and the UK, and also hosts a local⁢ radio show for English-speaking expatriates in the Basel region. ‍Despite his shift in ⁢focus, he remains committed to the principles of journalism.

“I want to stay in journalism. I’m convinced that it’s ⁣important,” Bullard states, reaffirming his belief in the vital role of a ⁤free and autonomous press.
