Angola with guaranteed place in the Futsal World Championship –

Angola finished as African futsal runner-up after losing to hosts Morocco 1-5 this Sunday, 21, in the final of the African Nations Championship (CAN), held at the Salle Palais des Sports Pavilion, in Rabat.

The only goal for the Angolans was scored by Adérito in the seventh minute, when the national team was losing 0-1. At half-time, Angola was already 1-3 behind against the now three-time continental champions. The opponent’s experience prevailed over the effort of Marcos Antunes’ players throughout the game.

This unprecedented second place guarantees Angola a place in the 10th edition of the World Championship, which will be held from September 14th to October 6th this year in Uzbekistan.

This was Angola’s fourth participation in the African Cup of Nations (CAN), after having been present in the 2008 editions in Libya, 2016 in South Africa and 2020 in Morocco, where they won the bronze medal.

On the other hand, Libya achieved third place by beating Egypt on penalties 4-1, after a 1-1 draw in regular time. The Libyan team also qualified for the 2024 World Cup.
