ANOCA GAMES – Swimmers win five gold medals ** Tendry

Tendry Tiavina Rakotobe won gold in the 100m backstroke and silver in the 50m breaststroke.

The swimmers of the Big Island shone, from the first day of the Games of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (Acnoa) of Zone 7 dedicated to under-18s, yesterday, at the Seychelles national swimming pool. Madagascar won eight medals including five gold, two silver and one bronze.

Tendry Tiavina Rakotobe achieved a double by winning the gold medal in the 100m backstroke event and the silver in the 50m breaststroke. Aina Horavaka Emadisson won gold in the 50m breaststroke. Among the girls, Finaritra Razakatiana won the precious metal in the 50m breaststroke and Ony Mbolasoa Andrianaivo won gold in the 100m backstroke. The men’s team formed by Aina Emadisson, Tendry Tiavina, Baritiana Mathieu Andriampenomanana and Irina Nathanael Ratsimandresy, also reached the top step of the 4x100m freestyle relay, ahead of the Mauritian and the Seychellois.

The girls, for their part, narrowly missed the top step and settled for the silver medal, behind the Mauritians. The women’s team was made up of Finaritra, Ony Mbolasoa, Praxas Marie Ange Andrianaho and Anjanirina Miranda Razafindrandretsa. And the bronze medal was won by Baritiana Mathieu.

The swimming competition will continue until Friday. The table tennis events kicked off last night and will not end until Friday. Four table tennis players are in the running. The men’s team defeated the Djibouti and Mauritius teams yesterday, while the girls beat the Seychellois and Mauritius teams.

The 3-on-3 basketball and beach volleyball competitions will start this Wednesday. The finals are scheduled for Friday. Madagascar is represented by two teams, men’s and women’s, for these two collective disciplines.
