Several people, including the local bishop, were stabbed by an attacker in Sydney, Australia. On Monday evening local time (noon our time), a man came to mass with a knife and started stabbing the bishop in the face.
Prominent Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel ended up in hospital after being attacked by an unknown man, the website reported news.com.au. The mass was being broadcast live, the footage shows how a young man in a black sweatshirt calmly approaches the bishop and starts stabbing him in the face.
After the attack, the stabbed bishop fell to the ground. There is no information about his condition.
During the attack, it broke out in the church in which it happened according to the website The Australian about a hundred visitors, panic and several people tried to stop the attacker. A 50-year-old man ended up in the hospital. The other three injured were treated by paramedics on the spot.
“Police have detained a man who is cooperating with the investigation. The injured persons suffered non-life-threatening injuries and are being treated by NSW Ambulance Service paramedics,” the police said on the social network X.
This is the second knife attack in Sydney in recent days. In Saturday’s attack, a man killed six people in a shopping center there.
