Another old grenade was found in the Efteling this morning. The grenade was found during excavation work at the Droomvlucht and Raveleijn attractions, in an area where only employees can enter. As a precaution, Droomvlucht was closed for a short time.

The amusement park called in the Defense Explosive Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD). “They were quickly able to determine that the grenade was harmless, after which everything could be opened again,” says a spokesperson for Efteling. According to the spokesperson, Droomvlucht and the area around it are now open again.

It is the second time in a short time that a grenade has been found in the amusement park. It is not clear exactly what kind of grenade it was. According to the spokesperson, it was an old copy, probably from the Second World War. The explosive will be secured by the EOD tomorrow, reports Broadcasting Brabant.

Last week there was a visit to the amusement park also found a grenade. The explosive was then found during work at Doornroosje, in the Fairytale Forest. After the discovery, the area was temporarily cordoned off and the EOD detonated the grenade outside the park.

According to the spokesperson, the finds can be explained. “A lot happened in the region during the Second World War, so things from the war are often found in the area,” he explains. “But it is striking that two explosives were found in the park in such a short time.”

No additional measures are being taken for the time being. “There is little that can be done and these types of finds are actually only made in the park when digging deep into the ground, such as during work,” said the spokesperson.
