For too long, accessing and sharing your medical records has been a frustrating, frequently enough manual process. The core of this plan focuses on two key improvements:

Seamless Data Exchange: Making it easier for your health data to travel securely between doctors, hospitals, and the apps you use.

The CMS Interoperability Framework: A Blueprint for Change
The initiative is built around the newly published CMS Interoperability Framework. This framework establishes technical standards for secure data sharing between apps, Electronic Health Records (EHRs), and healthcare networks.
The response has been extraordinary. Over 60 companies have already committed to building tools and services based on this framework, with 30 specifically focused on new consumer-facing apps. expect to see these apps rolling out in the coming months, offering access to features like:

AI-Powered Assistance: Conversational AI to help you check symptoms, find care options, and schedule appointments.
Digital Check-In: A move away from cumbersome paper forms, replacing them with streamlined digital intake processes.

Apple’s contribution centers around a especially impactful goal: eliminating the need for patients to manually relay their medical history. This is being dubbed “killing the clipboard.”
Alongside companies like b.well, CVS Health, Google, Samsung, and UnitedHealth Group, Apple will help develop solutions that allow you to securely share your health records with providers via QR codes or Smart Health Cards/Links using FHIR bundles. The goal is a seamless experience where your data follows you, eliminating repetitive data entry.

When possible, we will return visit records to patients in the same format. we commit to seamless, secure data exchange-eliminating the need for patients to repeatedly recall and write out their medical history.
