Oleksiis Arestovych became one of the most famous Ukrainian politicians during the war. He does not hide his intention to run for the post of the country’s president in the future. In January 2023, O. Arestovyčius left Volodymyr Zelenskiy’s team, where he held the position of advisor to the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine. He resigned when he was criticized for what he once said – he considered that a Russian missile probably hit a residential house in Dnipro because it was deflected by a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile. He later explained that he simply made a mistake – due to overwork.

Over the past year and a half, O. Arestovyčius’s statements against V. Zelenskii and his entourage have become increasingly harsh, and some of his views are considered by many to be pro-Russian. Now O. Arestovyčius calls on Ukraine, its neighbors and Western countries to start negotiations with Russia. But why did the person who wants to become the next president of Ukraine start to think and speak completely differently than at the beginning of the war?
