Voluntary assault and battery. The injured person is an agent from the Mananara-Avaratra Water and Forestry cantonment. The attack took place on Tuesday, during a control and awareness mission on the fight against bush fires and deforestation in the rural communes of Antanambe and Ambatoharanana.
The victim and his colleague, technical assistant for Water and Forests, were responsible for this tour. They came across a case of land clearing while passing Andranombazaha, in Ambatoharanana constituency. The looter, a farmer, was identified and sought. The two forest officers, on their way to find the person, came across a villager. They asked him if he could provide them with some information. The person didn’t answer them. Without warning, he attacked one of them with his knife.
The victim almost lost his left hand. She was hit in her wrist. She was quickly taken to the Level II Basic Health Center for treatment. Alerted to the facts, two gendarmes reached the locality and captured the perpetrator of the crime.
