Avertizare Meteo: Vânt Puternic, Brumă și Ninsori – ANM Emită Cod Portocaliu în Mai multe Zone din România (Joi)

Romania is bracing for a sharp turn in weather as the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued multiple warnings for freezing temperatures, dense fog and snowfall across several regions. The alerts, valid from April 22 to April 24, 2026, highlight a return to winter-like conditions despite the spring season, with particular concern for mountainous areas and northern counties.

The ANM has placed Botoșani, Iași, and the lower part of Suceava county under an orange wind warning for Thursday, April 23, 2026, forecasting wind gusts between 70 and 90 km/h between noon and 8 p.m. This level of alert signifies potentially dangerous conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles and outdoor activities. Simultaneously, a yellow wind warning covers nearly the entire country, valid from 9 a.m. To 10 p.m. On the same day, with sustained winds expected to reach 40–50 km/h in most regions and higher gusts in elevated and exposed areas.

In addition to the wind risks, meteorologists warn of snowfall above 1,400 meters in the Southern and Eastern Carpathians, where a fresh snow layer of approximately 5 cm is expected. Freezing temperatures and nocturnal fog are anticipated in intracarpathian depressions and lowland zones, creating hazardous visibility for drivers. The combination of cold, moisture, and wind has led to icy patches on roads, particularly in mountain passes and elevated plateaus.

The weather instability follows a period of sharp temperature fluctuations, with drops of up to 10 degrees Celsius from one day to the next. Forecasters note that the thermal regime remains below seasonal norms, increasing the likelihood of additional wintry precipitation in the coming days. These conditions are atypical for late April, when average temperatures typically range between 8 and 16 degrees Celsius across most of Romania.

Authorities advise the public to limit non-essential travel, especially in areas under orange alert, and to secure loose objects that could become projectiles in strong winds. Drivers are urged to use winter tires or chains where snow is expected and to reduce speed in foggy conditions. The ANM will continue monitoring the situation and update warnings as needed through the duration of the event.

For real-time updates, residents can consult the official ANM website or follow local emergency services on social media. The current advisories remain in effect until Friday, April 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., after which conditions are expected to gradually stabilize.

Stay informed, take precautions, and share this information to help keep others safe during this unexpected return of winter weather.
