Just hours after President Emmanuel Macron’s speech on Europe, the leader of the far-right party RN Jordan Bardella held a last-minute press conference on Thursday to unveil its campaign for the European elections.

But above all, the 28-year-old candidate who is leading the polls, could not help but throw a dig at the president, criticizing his involvement in the electoral campaign.

The head of the National Rally list rolled out his program against a Europe, according to him, that was too bureaucratic and massive immigration.

He also expressed his opposition to EU membership of countries such as Ukraine and Turkey.

The announcement lasted 20 minutes before the candidate suddenly disappears, refusing to answer questions.

He left the floor to his campaign manager, visibly uncomfortable as journalists expressed their displeasure.

“Emmanuel Macron did not answer questions from journalists, so Jordan Bardella will not answer questions this evening either,” tried to justify Alexandre Loubet, his campaign director.

This isn’t the first time Jordan Bardella has run away from confrontation. He has already refused to participate in three debates against his opponents, including one on the environment, last week in Angers.

This refusal to respond comes as the National Rally is faced with a wave of scandals. Number three on the RN list. Fabrice Leggeri, former head of Frontexwas recently the subject of a complaint filed by two NGOs accusing him of being complicit in crimes against humanity for having participated in the pushback of migrants in the Mediterranean.

The RN’s main ally in Germany, the far-right AfD party, was hit by corruption accusations following revelations that a parliamentary aide allegedly spied for the benefit of China.
