The New Basket ABC PONENTE Under-15 team has achieved a historic qualification for the second phase of the Piemontese Ligure Under-15 Eccellenza tournament. After a crucial weekend of competition, the team secured its place among the top eight teams in the region.
A Weekend of Decisive Matches
Coach Ciravegna’s team faced a challenging scenario, needing to win both of their weekend matches to secure a spot in the next round. The first game, played on Saturday, was an away match against Tortona, a team positioned ahead of them in the standings.Despite the pressure, PONENTE delivered a strong performance, securing a 81-70 victory. This marked their seventh win of the season within the group.
Though,the team understood that simply winning wasn’t enough. A three-way tie with Next Step Rapallo and GGS Savigliano loomed, and tiebreaker rules favored Savigliano over PONENTE.
Following the Saturday match, players, staff, parents, and supporters enjoyed a Serie A game between Derthona and Olimpia Milano, maintaining focus on the crucial Sunday matchup.
Securing Qualification in Alassio
On Sunday, PONENTE hosted AREA PRO Piossasco at Alassio. Recognizing the potential for upsets in competitive play, the young team started with intense concentration. They steadily increased their lead throughout the first three quarters, ultimately winning the game 77-66. This victory confirmed their place among the top eight Under-15 Eccellenza teams in Piemonte Ligure, joining strong contenders like College, Derthona, Casale, Cus Torino, Moncalieri, Lovi Borgaro, and Collegno.
