President of the United States (US) Joe Biden gave a speech at the US Capitol in commemoration of the holocaust. Biden briefly touched on the holocaust and attacks Hamas the Israel on October 7, 2023.

Reported by CNN, Tuesday (7/5/2024), Biden gave a speech on the topic of antisemitism. He admitted that he was worried that people would forget that Hamas’ attacks on Israel were like the holocaust.

“They have forgotten that Hamas carried out this terror,” he said.

“I haven’t forgotten it, neither have you, and we won’t forget it,” he continued.

He said this speech was delivered to honor the victims of the Holocaust. In addition, he also warned that the memory of the genocide may disappear from public perception.

“The truth is we are at risk if people don’t know the truth,” Biden said.

“We honor the memory of the victims [dan] the suffering of the survivors,” he said.

Quoted from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum website, the Holocaust was the systematic persecution and massacre of six million European Jews by the German Nazi regime and its allies and accomplices.

The Holocaust occurred between 1933 and 1945. This historical event began in January 1933 when Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party had power in Germany, and ended in May 1945 when the Allies defeated Nazi Germany in World War II.

Meanwhile, the October 7 incident was an attack carried out by the Hamas group against Israel. The attack occurred at a music festival. The attack left 1,200 people dead.

Israel then carried out a massive military attack on Gaza under the pretext of retaliating against Hamas. Israeli attacks have killed more than 34 thousand Palestinians in Gaza.
