HEALTH. The public health department of the CIUSSS de l’Estrie-CHUS has launched a call for vigilance since the appearance of at least five cases of measles reported in Estrie.

This vigilance is required for those who have visited around ten places since March 19. One of the locations is the Magog rest stop on Highway 10 (exit 115). The notice affects people who passed through 2911 Miletta Road on March 22 between 2:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.

The other places are:

  • l’Oeufrier de Bromont (March 19, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.)
  • the Hart store in Granby (March 19, 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.)
  • Granby Dollarama (March 19, 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.)
  • the Super C of Granby (March 20, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.)
  • SOS emergency assistance from Granby (March 20, 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.)
  • the Strom Nordic spa in Sherbrooke (March 22, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.)
  • the Familiprix Pharmacy in Granby (March 24, 9:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.)
  • Granby Hospital (March 26, 12:25 p.m. and 4:20 p.m.).

The CIUSSS de l’Estrie recommends this vigilance since measles is a very contagious disease that is transmitted through the air. “The mere fact of having shared the same space as a contagious person can be enough to be infected,” we read in a press release.

If you attended any of the places mentioned at the times indicated, you are considered to have been exposed to measles. You must therefore check if you are protected against measles. If you are considered protected, the risk of having measles is very low. As a precaution, you should still watch for signs of measles.

If you are not considered protected against measles or if you do not know it, get vaccinated against measles by making an appointment at www.clicsante.ca or by telephone at 1 877 644-4545. Isolate yourself at home from the 5th day following your first exposure to measles, until the 14th day inclusive after your last exposure. Avoid contact with babies under 12 months, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems.

At all times, watch for signs of measles. Symptoms include high fever, as well as cough, runny nose, or red, moist (or runny) eyes. And 2 to 4 days later, redness which starts on the face then spreads to the whole body lasting at least 3 days.
