Significant Blow to Naxalite Movement: 10 Cadres, Including Key Leader, Surrender in Chhattisgarh
Bastar, Chhattisgarh – november 28, 2025 – A major development in the ongoing efforts to combat Naxalite insurgency unfolded today with the surrender of ten individuals, including Chaitu (also known as Shyam Dada), a senior member of the Dandakaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC). This surrender, occurring in Jagdalpur, bastar district, represents a significant setback for the Maoist movement and highlights the growing success of the Chhattisgarh PoliceS rehabilitation initiatives.
A Collective Bounty & The ‘Poona Margem’ Initiative
The surrendered cadres carried a combined reward of ₹65 lakh for their capture. This includes three women among the group.their decision to lay down arms comes under the “Poona Margem” (New Path) initiative launched by the Bastar Police.
Inspector General of Police Sundarraj Pattilingam emphasized the transformative impact of this program. It offers a pathway for disillusioned Naxalites to reintegrate into society.
The Importance of Chaitu’s Surrender
The surrender of Chaitu, whose real name is Giraddi Pavanand Reddy, is particularly noteworthy. He joined the Communist Party of India (CPI) in 1985 and has been a key figure within the Naxalite hierarchy for decades.

* Early years (1985): joined the CPI in Warangal district,Telangana.
* 1991-92: moved to Dandakaranya, initially serving as a ‘dalam’ (squad) member.
* Progression: rose through the ranks, becoming a commander and then a divisional committee member.
* 2007: Appointed to the DKSZC, eventually becoming the in-charge of the Darbha division.
* Reward: A ₹25 lakh reward was offered for his capture, reflecting his importance to the Maoist organization.
Police officials confirm Chaitu was instrumental in planning and executing several deadly attacks in the Bastar region. His departure significantly weakens the Maoist presence in the area.

* Janni alias Raymati Salam: Area Committee Member (₹5 lakh reward)
* Santosh: Area Committee Member (₹5 lakh reward)
* Ramsheela alias Bukli Salam: Area Committee Member (₹5 lakh reward)
* Naveen alias Bhaju Salam: Party Member (₹1 lakh reward)
* Jayati alias manai Kashyap: Party Member (₹1 lakh reward)
A Call for remaining Cadres to Surrender
IGP Pattilingam extended an appeal to remaining Maoist cadres, including high-ranking leaders like Politburo member Devji and Central Committee member Ramdar. He urged them to renounce violence and embrace the chance to rejoin mainstream society.
“The door remains open for those willing to abandon this destructive path,” he stated.
A Growing Trend of Surrenders
This latest surrender is part of a larger trend. Over 2,200 Naxalites, including numerous top-level operatives, have surrendered in Chhattisgarh over the past 23 months. This demonstrates the increasing effectiveness of the state’s counter-insurgency strategy and the appeal of rehabilitation programs.
