Kim Kardashian & Chris Van Dusen Team Up for New YA drama, “Calabasas“
Kim Kardashian is expanding her television footprint, this time partnering with Bridgerton creator Chris Van Dusen for a new drama series titled Calabasas. The project, based on Via Bleidner‘s debut collection of stories, If You Lived Hear You’d Be Famous By Now, promises a captivating look into the world of privileged high school life.
Originally developed with I. Marlene King as showrunner, the series will now be spearheaded by Van Dusen, who will write and executive produce. This shift comes after Van Dusen’s success with the globally popular Bridgerton.
A Fresh Take on the Teen Drama Genre
Calabasas aims to capture the spirit of classic teen dramas like The O.C. and Beverly Hills, 90210, but with a distinctly modern edge. The story centers on Via,a 16-year-old navigating a dramatic life change.
Here’s what you can expect from the series:
* A sheltered Midwestern girl thrust into the competitive world of Calabasas High.
* A setting where appearances are deceiving and ambition runs high.
* exploration of the complexities of dreams, consequences, and self-revelation.
Kardashian’s Vision & “Bridgerton” Connection
Kardashian, a native of Calabasas, has been a driving force behind bringing Bleidner’s book to the screen. She’s a dedicated fan of Van Dusen’s work, particularly Bridgerton, having discovered the series in 2021.
Interestingly, Kardashian has even forged a connection with Bridgerton star nicola Coughlan, who playfully dubbed her “Lady Kardashian of Calabasas” in a recent interview. This enthusiasm underscores Kardashian’s commitment to the project and her vision for a compelling, character-driven story.
Van Dusen’s Expanding Portfolio
Van Dusen is quickly becoming a prominent figure in the streaming landscape. Bridgerton remains a top-performing series for Netflix, currently ranking among its most popular English-language titles.
Beyond Calabasas, Van Dusen is also developing:
* They Both Die At The End, based on Adam Silvera’s novel and executive produced by Bad Bunny.
* An adaptation of Elle Kennedy’s Girl Abroad in collaboration with A24 and Pacesetter Productions.
His previous work includes notable series like Scandal and grey’s Anatomy, demonstrating a proven track record of creating engaging television.
Bleidner’s Debut & Kardashian’s Additional Projects
Via Bleidner’s If You Lived Here You’d Be Famous By Now was published in 2021 while she was a student at UC Santa Barbara. It marks her first foray into published fiction.
