Colombia Launches Ambitious Digital Entrepreneurship Program for 2026
As more Colombians turn to the internet to generate income, the national government is launching a comprehensive initiative to equip citizens with the skills and resources needed to thrive in the digital economy. The Programa de Emprendimiento Digital 2026, a collaboration between the Ministry of Information Technologies and Communications (MinTIC), the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism and iNNpulsa Colombia, aims to foster innovation and accelerate technological transformation across the country. This program isn’t simply about adopting new technologies; it’s about empowering individuals and businesses to create sustainable economic opportunities in a rapidly evolving digital landscape.
Minister of ICT, Carina Murcia, explained that the program anticipates benefiting approximately 10,000 people nationwide, providing them with the tools to “strengthen their digital talent, boost new business models, and facilitate the creation, positioning, and monetization of digital projects.” According to the MinTIC, these projects can range from technology startups to content creation, digital services, and e-commerce ventures. The initiative recognizes that digital transformation is no longer solely a technological advancement but a crucial strategic pillar for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), entrepreneurs, and the broader Colombian economy.
The program will operate throughout Colombia, offering training, technical support, and connections to the innovation ecosystem. Lisset Gutiérrez, Director of Digital Economy at the MinTIC, emphasized that the goal is to ensure that digital ideas can evolve into scalable and sustainable projects. “The digital transformation is not just a technological advance, but a strategic axis for SMEs, entrepreneurs, the popular economy, the community economy and the different actors of the digital industry,” Gutiérrez stated. iNNpulsa Colombia will play a key role in operating the program, notifying applicants of their status and providing detailed evaluation criteria.
Focus on Skills Development and Emerging Technologies
A core component of Emprendimiento Digital 2026 is a series of specialized training programs designed to equip participants with in-demand digital skills. These programs will cover a range of topics, including digital product prototyping, blockchain technology, and emerging technological trends. Prototyping, the process of designing and testing initial versions of digital solutions, is considered crucial for validating ideas and accelerating development. Blockchain, with its secure and transparent transaction capabilities, is poised to revolutionize sectors like digital finance and supply chain management. The program will also explore broader trends in automation and content creation, preparing participants for the future of work.
These training initiatives aim to empower Colombians not only to understand the dynamics of the digital environment but also to identify opportunities for income generation, scaling existing businesses, or launching new ventures. The program builds on previous successes; in 2025, similar initiatives benefited over 9,450 citizens, achieving 100% territorial coverage with specialized training in areas like Digital Marketing, Business Models, Artificial Intelligence, and Prototyping. As highlighted by iNNpulsa Colombia, the transformation goes beyond supporting established companies, focusing on empowering regional actors to incubate and accelerate new startups.
Strengthening Regional Innovation Ecosystems
Recognizing the importance of localized support, Emprendimiento Digital 2026 will also focus on strengthening regional innovation ecosystems. This includes supporting incubators, accelerators, and organizations that provide guidance to entrepreneurs at the local level. By bolstering the capacity of these regional actors, the program aims to create environments that foster innovation and entrepreneurship across Colombia, extending opportunities beyond major cities. This approach acknowledges that digital innovation can serve as a powerful engine for economic and social development in all regions of the country.
The program will also provide specialized incubation and acceleration processes to help these organizations better support the creation and consolidation of digital companies. This targeted support will help ensure that entrepreneurs have access to the resources and expertise they need to succeed. A virtual connection platform will be developed to link entrepreneurs, digital companies, mentors, incubators, and investors, facilitating collaboration and the generation of new opportunities within the Colombian technology ecosystem.
Scaling Existing Digital Businesses
Beyond supporting startups, Emprendimiento Digital 2026 will also offer a dedicated track for established digital companies. This component will provide technical assistance to strengthen business models, optimize product development, and facilitate growth. The goal is to help high-potential ventures expand their presence in the digital ecosystem, access new markets, and solidify their position. This support is crucial for ensuring that Colombian digital businesses can compete effectively on a global scale.
In the second phase of the program, 125 companies in the digital industry and 18 regional initiatives will be selected for support. As reported by Grandes Genios U, these selected organizations will receive technical guidance, business strengthening, and capacity development to consolidate their position within the Colombian digital ecosystem. The program’s phased approach ensures transparency, with organizations receiving detailed evaluation criteria and documentation requirements via email.
The launch of Emprendimiento Digital 2026 builds on a growing trend of digital entrepreneurship in Colombia. Nearly 476 organizations applied to the program from various regions, demonstrating a national surge in digital ventures. The initiative represents a significant investment in the future of the Colombian economy, recognizing the transformative potential of digital technologies. Entrepreneurs, digital companies, and stakeholders in the ecosystem are encouraged to stay informed about upcoming calls for proposals and participation requirements.
The program is scheduled to unfold progressively throughout 2026. Further details regarding application processes and eligibility criteria will be announced in due course. The Ministry of ICT and iNNpulsa Colombia will continue to provide updates on the program’s progress and impact.
