Commercial banks sanctioned for lack of deposit guarantee to customers –

This year, the National Bank of Angola sanctioned two financial institutions for not presenting their customers with the Deposit Guarantee Fund form when depositing their financial resources.

The information was released this Wednesday, 22nd, in Luanda, during a workshop aimed at journalists, at the National Bank of Angola.

António Kanda, one of the speakers, said that the Deposit Guarantee Fund is an organization that guarantees the security of all the money that bank customers deposit in financial institutions.

For this reason, he explained, whenever a customer goes to a bank to deposit some money, they must receive real information about the guarantees that their resources are guaranteed by the Deposit Guarantee Fund.

The official drew attention to the sanctions that banks are subject to when they do not provide deposit guarantees to their customers.

Asked about the number of sanctions, the President of the Steering Committee of the Angolan Deposit Guarantee Fund, Ana Maria de Oliveira, said that in the current financial year only two institutions were sanctioned by the National Bank of Angola, for non-compliance, without, however, specify the names.

António Kanda said that there is a specific model, prepared by the National Bank of Angola, with various formats, for commercial banks to adopt in order to be available for customers to sign whenever they make a deposit in their respective banks.
