The Spanish National Police, in a joint operation with the Guardia Civil, arrested a group of Dutch nationals involved in the sale of gummies impregnated with cannabinoids. Based on the Costa del Sol, the organization’s members sent postal shipments of drugs throughout Europe and had also created a complex network of companies for the concealment and money laundering of money.

3MMC

The investigation started when the Spanish police received a report from the Belgian police that a Dutch national had been arrested at a parcel collection point with a shipment of 700 grams of 3MMC.
Following this arrest, officers started an investigation to find out which organization was behind this. The investigation revealed that the network behind the shipment was responsible for many other small shipments via different logistics companies and with different recipients. Numerous packages were sent to Maspalomas (Canary Islands) in particular.

Dutch couple

Spanish police report that a Dutch couple on the Costa del Sol was in charge of the organization. The couple lived a life of luxury and had several businesses (including a gym) in their name in the towns of Fuengirola, Mijas and Estepona. The man and woman, assisted by two Dutch “lieutenants”, coordinated the various drug transports.

Mode of operation

During one of the couple’s many encounters, police identified a Dutchman who appeared to have a “business” making drug candies. The modus operandi of this organization consisted of purchasing sweets and snacks from different countries such as the Netherlands and China or directly from factories in Levante. The sweets and snacks were then injected with cannabinoids. To avoid being discovered, the group’s members used various warehouses and buildings to store the products.

Injected

The investigation revealed that the organization had two warehouses in the city of Mijas. In one of the storage rooms they kept snacks, candy or vapes, which did not contain drugs. The treats were then taken to a building where the sweets and snacks were injected with THC, the active substance in cannabis. The products were later marketed in Malaga and the Netherlands.

Fifteen arrests

When the Spanish police had all locations of the organization in their sights, arrest teams raided seven homes on the Costa del Sol (Fuengirola, Mijas, Estepona) and the Canary Islands (Maspalomas). A total of fifteen suspects were arrested, including several Dutch people.

Drugs and guns

During the searches, various types of synthetic drugs, firearms and cash were found. Nearly 620,000 euros in bank accounts, crypto wallets and real estate worth 1.5 million euros and high-end cars have also been seized. Among other things, 12,000 bags of gummies and snacks impregnated with THC, 281 vapes containing liquid cannabis and 49 packages of varying weights containing cocaine were seized. In addition, 49 packages containing 3MMC, 78,500 doses of Etizolam and three kilos of MDPHP were intercepted.

1.5 million euros

The recipients of the drugs paid via bank transfers, with more than one and a half million euros being credited to the Dutch couple’s account during the period examined. The company declared these revenues as sales of products such as chemical raw materials, vitamins and sports products.
