The cryptocurrency trading platform Bitvavo has contacted several customers about a data breach. Names, email and home addresses, IBANs and ‘recent trading volume’ have been leaked. The platform says it concerns ‘a limited group of users’ whose information has been leaked.

Bitvavo gives in the message no details on how the data was leaked. The leak involves first and last name, email and home address, bank account number, ‘recent trading volume’ and the last three digits of the telephone number. User funds are safe and Bitvavo says it has ‘no indication that passwords are public’. Customers are advised to change the password, set up 2fa and be alert to unusual activity and emails. The platform says it has reported the data breach to ‘the relevant authorities’. Tweakers asked Bitvavo questions about the leak.

Update, 1:15 p.m.: Bitvavo says it has informed affected customers to Tweakers, but cannot provide any additional details ‘while the investigation is ongoing’. The company also says that it will only be able to make announcements about ‘any additional measures we are going to take or have taken’ after the investigation. Bitvavo says that this investigation is being conducted together with the internet and external experts, and says it has reported the data breach to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.
