Navigating a changing Theatre Landscape
The theatre world has faced unprecedented challenges in recent years. But smaller companies like CTC possess a unique advantage: agility. We’re less encumbered by bureaucracy, allowing us to pivot quickly and respond directly to the needs of our community.
My primary focus as leader of CTC is simple: listen to our audiences and donors. Their loyalty, fueled by high-quality work and a positive experience for artists, is the bedrock of our sustainability. It’s about building relationships and fostering a sense of belonging.
During the COVID-19 lockdowns, CTC didn’t stand still. We used the downtime to refine internal processes and create more robust schedules. This preparation allowed us to “hit the ground running” when performances resumed, with clear goals and a streamlined approach. In 2022, for the first time in years, I felt proactive, rather than constantly playing catch-up.
We also prioritize responsiveness to community needs. We don’t dictate what our audiences want; we ask and then adapt accordingly.
Current Production & Season Highlights
currently, we’re incredibly excited about Outside Mullingar, a charming Irish romantic comedy opening October 3rd. It’s the perfect show for a cozy autumn evening.
Looking ahead, we’re already planning Season 2026 (we operate on a calendar year). Expect exciting new work and continued commitment to engaging storytelling. We’re building something special, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
A Touch of the Unexpected
Sometimes, the most memorable moments happen when you least expect them. In our recent Shakespeare production, Comedy of Errors, we took a bold risk. We suspended a massive, colorful parachute from the ceiling, effectively blocking the lighting grid.
The result? A wonderfully chaotic,carnival-esque atmosphere that perfectly complemented the play’s farcical nature. It was unconventional, but it worked – and we enjoyed a nearly sold-out run! It’s a reminder that taking risks can lead to truly magical theatrical experiences.
Life Beyond the Stage
Balancing a demanding career with personal life is a constant challenge. My husband and I are currently navigating the joys (and exhaustion!) of new parenthood. Work-life balance is a goal I’m actively striving for.
The Future of Theatre: A vision for 20 Years
I envision a future theatre landscape populated by vibrant, nimble companies like CTC. These organizations will be driven by passionate artists constantly seeking innovative ways to connect with audiences and nurture the next generation of theatrical talent.
It’s a future built on collaboration, creativity, and a deep commitment to the power of live performance. And I’m confident that CTC will be a vital part of that future.
