DBS Launches S$10 Million Support Package With Weekly Grocery Discounts

Singapore’s largest bank, DBS, has launched the DBS Saturday Savings programme, a key component of a S$10 million initiative designed to help Singaporeans manage rising household expenses. The programme provides weekly discounts on essential grocery items, specifically targeting Saturday shopping routines.

From July 18 to August 29, 2026, customers using any DBS or POSB credit or debit card can receive S$3 off selected house-brand eggs and S$3 off selected house-brand rice products. Shoppers who purchase both eligible items can achieve total savings of up to S$6 per visit. The promotion is available at 129 participating Giant and Sheng Siong supermarket outlets across Singapore. • Sheng Siong: Egg For You Fresh Eggs (30s) and Happy Family Fragrant Jasmine Rice (5kg).

There are approximately 90,000 redemptions available each week, provided on a first-come, first-served basis while stocks last. Each customer is limited to one redemption per item per day, and the offer cannot be combined with other vouchers, including CDC vouchers, or ongoing promotions.

Expanded Support for Households

The current grocery initiative represents an expansion of previous efforts. While earlier campaigns were restricted to POSB cardholders and limited to Sheng Siong outlets, the new programme is open to all DBS and POSB credit and debit cardholders and includes both Giant and Sheng Siong supermarkets. The weekly allocation of 90,000 redemptions is more than three times the quantity offered during the bank’s grocery campaign in 2025. Calvin Ong, Head of Consumer Banking Group at DBS Singapore, stated that the bank aims to provide practical benefits that help Singaporeans stretch their dollar, noting that weekend grocery shopping is a familiar routine for many households.

Looking Ahead: Hawkers and Heartland Shops

Following the conclusion of the grocery promotion in August, DBS will reintroduce its PayLah! S$3 Saturday Cashback campaign in September. This initiative provides S$3 cashback to users who make payments at hawker centres and heartland shops. Further details regarding the September launch are expected to be released by the bank closer to the date. These measures follow a broader commitment by the bank to support the community amidst cost-of-living pressures, which Lim Him Chuan, DBS Singapore country head, attributed to factors such as geopolitical conflict and rising energy prices. In 2025, the bank subsidized more than S$6 million in daily essentials and hawker meals. Data from 2025 indicated that 36% of those who redeemed cashback rewards were senior citizens or individuals earning less than S$2,500 per month.

Context of Cost-of-Living Initiatives

The DBS support package complements government-led efforts to alleviate economic strain. In April 2026, the Singapore government announced an acceleration of voucher disbursements to assist households with rising costs. Education Minister Desmond Lee, who attended the launch of the Saturday Savings programme at the Clementi West Sheng Siong outlet on July 18, emphasized the importance of corporations and individuals working together to support the community. Beyond direct consumer relief, the bank’s broader S$10 million initiative also includes support for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), such as advisory services and training for artificial intelligence adoption, aimed at helping businesses remain competitive in the current economic climate.
