According to Israeli state television KAN, Saar said at a press conference in Tel Aviv that the reason for joining the Emergency Government was “to take action in Israel’s wars.”

Pointing to Israeli War Cabinet Member Benny Gantz, Saar stated that he agreed with him and agreed to enter the government even though he did not participate in the war council.

Regarding his decision to join the Netanyahu government, Saar said, “Over time, I realized that perhaps I had made a mistake. In recent months, I and the citizens of Israel have seen that the course of the war is not bringing us any closer to achieving our goals.” said.

Arguing that a faster timetable should be worked to destroy Hamas’s military power, Saar said, “By reducing military pressure, we have lost an important source of pressure to reach a new agreement for the release of those taken captive.” made his assessment.

“IT MADE OUR SITUATION EVEN WORSE”

“The prolongation of the war has worsened our situation on the international political scene,” Saar said. he said.

Stating that the management of the attacks on Gaza was transferred from the cabinet to the war council, Saar stated that there were no people in the war council who could present a different perspective and criticize, and for this reason, he “wanted to join the war council so that he could use his expertise.”

Regarding his decision to leave the government, Saar said, “In my opinion, I cannot take responsibility unless I have the opportunity to influence the direction of politics. In short, I no longer see any point in this. That is why I announced my intention to resign and signed my resignation letter to convey to the Prime Minister.” he said.

HE OFFERED CONDITIONS TO NETANYAHU

Saar, who previously served as Minister of Justice, announced about 10 days ago that he would resign if Netanyahu did not include him in the war council, but Netanyahu did not take any steps in this direction.

Former Minister Saar announced the end of his political partnership with Gantz on March 12 and took his party’s 4 seats in the parliament, leaving 8 seats for the Blue-White Party led by Gantz.

Gideon Saar left Netanyahu’s party Likud in 2020 and founded the New Hope Party, and participated in the parliamentary elections on a joint list with Gantz’s party in July 2022. The alliance of Saar and Gantz won 12 seats in the 120-seat Israeli Parliament in the parliamentary elections.
