The Women’s Tour
10:50 Telefonica District – 13:40 Valdesqui Community of Madrid
After the Tour de France, Demi Vollering (SD Worx-Protime) has now also added the Tour of Spain to her list of achievements. In the final stage she did not let the overall victory slip away. In fact, Vollering topped the job with a second stage victory after a solo.

A day of relaxing in the streets of Madrid? None of it.
With the final stage towards the Valdesqui ski resort (12.8 km at 4.8%), there was a dessert to turn things upside down.
Demi Vollering was the woman to beat. The Dutch champion started this mountain stage with almost a minute’s lead. Could someone still fire her up?
Vollering is destroying everyone
A severely thinned peloton started the first of two climbs at a tight pace. Everyone made it to the top in one piece, but it now went downhill quickly towards the decisive final climb.
During that descent we were in shock for a moment: Niamh Fisher-Black missed a bend and dangled over the guardrail for a moment, but escaped unscathed.
At the foot of the Valdesqui a strong Grace Bown set the speed, at the back the door was just as wide open.
Vollering sat in an armchair and simply surfed along. At kilometer marker 7 she shook the tree herself.
With a ruthless acceleration she knocked everyone out of her wheel, the rest already realized that the bird had started to fly.
The leader of SD-Worx Protime steamed ahead unperturbed, with a wall-to-wall smile she raised her steel horse above her head at the finish line.
She impressively wins the Vuelta Femenina for the first time, Riejanne Markus and Elisa Longo Borghini complete the podium of the final classification.
By the way, it is the Netherlands at the top in this Vuelta Femenina. In addition to the red jersey, Vollering also took the polka dots, while Marianne Vos rode unthreatened to the green points jersey. Together they walked away with 4 of the 8 stage wins. Bad food.

Red jersey Demi Vollering: “We can be very proud of ourselves”
Demi Vollering: “This feels very good, the team rode fantastic all day long. I was actually a bit nervous about the final climb because it wasn’t super difficult. There was a headwind, but at a certain point it turned away and we got a tailwind. Then I launched my attack. It’s great that I was able to stay out of the hands of my pursuers, we ended this Vuelta nicely. A few podium places and two stage victories: we can be very proud of ourselves.”
What does this final victory mean for the rest of the season? “I hope I can still ride some nice stage races, I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.”

Music on second, Markus on third
A strong Markus finally has to bow his head to Muzic.
Still, the Dutch woman from Team Visma-Lease a Bike can cheer: she knocks Longo Borghini out of second place in the general classification, while the Italian holds onto third place.
Vollering takes a royal double!
After a poor spring, Vollering fully lives up to her role as favorite in this Vuelta Femenina.
With a wall-to-wall smile and her steel horse above her head, she celebrates the day and the final victory. Dominance.
Complete solo into the last kilometer
Demi Vollering can already see the finish line appearing on the horizon. It’s in for the Dutch!
She was unbeatable in this Vuelta.
Markus tears the group in two
Markus keeps a very constant pace, only Muzic can stay on her wheel. In the virtual general classification she comes within one second of Longo Borghini!
The difference between Vollering and the rest is only growing.
In the background there is a hard battle going on between Markus and Longo Borghini for second place in the general classification.
Steepest kilometer approaching
The 7% pieces will soon be approaching. If Vollering gets through this well, she can already smell the stage victory and the final win.
What a fantastic Vuelta the Dutch champion is riding!
Fulfillment under steam
The red jersey has set a good pace and continues. Another 3 kilometers of climbing.
In no time Vollering had a bite of 15 seconds. Muzic, Markus, Kastelijn and Bauernfeind are the closest pursuers.

Swinkels picked up
Karlijn Swinkels will not win the stage or the mountain jersey. Tired of fighting, the favorites pass her by and she can look back on a very nice Vuelta.
Perhaps you will soon be rewarded with super fighting spirit?
The final climb is a nasty beast. It slowly slopes towards 7%, but the end is relatively flat.
Perfection in an armchair
The red jersey paddles along smoothly, she still has Marlen Reusser in support. Have a drink to pump some juice into your legs.
Brown sets the pace
The group of favorites also starts the climb. The signal for Brown to start her task: she puts her finger firmly on it. Swinkels’ lead is now melting like snow in the sun.
Valdesqui (12,8 km aan 4,8%)
Swinkels starts solo on the last climb of this Vuelta. Where will the ranking women place their decisive attack?
