Brisbane Lions star Charlie Cameron is focusing on individual performance as the team aims for a historic third consecutive AFL premiership.Cameron, a dual All-Australian, acknowledged a dip in his personal form during parts of the 2024 season but highlighted his impact during the finals series, including a four-goal performance in the Grand Final victory over Geelong.
“I didn’t have the standard I wanted in the season, but the last probably three games of the finals I showed that I can still have that impact with limited opportunities,” Cameron stated. AFL.com.au
In a shift from previous seasons, Cameron has stepped down from a formal leadership role within the team to concentrate on maximizing his on-field contribution. “Throughout the pre-season, I’ve stepped back from my leadership role and just tried to focus on my own role going forward,” he explained. “Trying to get myself in a position to have impact in pre-season and understand that my best is up there with the best. I’ve just got to try and do that consistently.”
The Lions are entering the 2025 season with high expectations, seeking to become the first team sence Collingwood (1927-1930) to win three premierships in a row. Cameron expressed confidence in the team’s preparedness and hunger for success.”Winning the last two was pretty cool… the players have come back in great shape, and the hunger is still there to go again,” the 31-year-old said.
The team has also benefited from the return of players previously sidelined by injury, increasing competition for spots. “we’ve got some players that were injured last year that have come back in great shape and actually put themselves in a position to fight for a spot.”
The Lions leadership group for 20
