Sean “Diddy” Combs has fired back at his former contractor, filing a countersuit that accuses videographer and producer Rodney Jones of stealing private video footage and selling it to media projects, including a Netflix docuseries.

Court documents reviewed by Complex and reported by The Express Tribune center on claims that Jones accessed computer drives without authorization during a 2022 yacht trip to St. Barts. He allegedly leveraged the stolen material for financial gain and public defamation.
This legal action marks a sharp escalation in the battles between the disgraced music mogul and Jones. Jones originally filed a lawsuit against Combs in February 2024, accusing him of sexual assault, harassment, drugging, and threats. Complex reported that Jones worked as an independent contractor for Combs between October 2022 and October 2023, producing content for a studio album. Diddy’s legal team now alleges that Jones faced mounting legal fees from unconnected misconduct accusations and demanded additional money from Combs before filing his initial complaint.
Exploiting Trust for Competing Documentaries
“Mr. Jones exploited Mr. Combs’ trust by stealing computer drives that contained footage owned by Mr. Combs and intended for use by Mr. Combs in a documentary about his life,” the countersuit states, as detailed by Complex.
The legal filing alleges that Jones accessed another videographer’s workstation without permission, copied the data, and sold the files to outside entities for use in competing documentary projects. These include Netflix’s four-part series Sean Combs: The Reckoning.
A December 2025 Discovery and Netflix’s Defense
According to court papers outlined by The Express Tribune, Combs’ legal team asserts that the music mogul did not discover the alleged theft until December 2025. That was when he realized that footage intended for his own biographical project had appeared in the Netflix documentary. The countersuit contends that Jones remains in possession of the computer drives and utilized his participation in the docuseries to spread false allegations.
Netflix and the production team behind Sean Combs: The Reckoning have strongly rejected claims that the series used unlawfully obtained material. A spokesperson for the streaming service stated that footage leading up to Combs’ federal indictment and arrest was legally acquired, adding that the project is neither a hit piece nor an act of retribution. Director Alexandria Stapleton similarly maintained that the documentary team secured the necessary rights through legal channels, noting that production representatives attempted to contact Combs’ legal team for comment prior to release.
Defamation Claims and Dismissed Counts
In addition to the allegations regarding stolen property, Combs’ countersuit accuses Jones of defamation. The filing argues that statements made by Jones during his Netflix interview—specifically accusations that Combs directed him to procure sex workers—are false and knowingly fabricated.
The initial 2024 lawsuit filed by Jones targeted Combs, former chief of staff Kristina Khorram, son Justin Combs, and corporate entity Combs Global. However, a New York federal judge dismissed five of the nine original claims in March 2025, according to Complex reporting.
