Share Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD) receives a report from an investigation into nitrous oxide, alcohol and tobacco. The special investigator Inga-Lill Askersjö will also participate in the press conference.

Today, the results of the investigation into nitrous oxide and certain issues in the area of alcohol and tobacco, carried out on behalf of the government, were presented. The investigation contains, among other things, proposals for a total ban on the use of nitrous oxide for non-medical purposes.

– There has been a belief that inhaling nitrous oxide is harmless because it is not regulated in the same way as drugs or alcohol, says Jakob Forssmed at the press conference.

Only small cartridges intended for food must be sold, with an 18-year-old limit, according to the proposal.

– Nitrous oxide is not intended to be used as a means of pleasure, says the special investigator Inga-Lill Askersjö.

The investigation also makes suggestions in the area of alcohol and nicotine and is primarily aimed at children and young people.

– We want to prevent and make it harder for young people to use nicotine, alcohol and nitrous oxide, says Inga-Lill Askersjö.

The investigation proposes, among other things, a nicotine-free school period. According to the proposal, the ban on smoking on school grounds should be extended to both smoking and snuff bans during the time that teaching is in progress at the school.

– Snuffing in schools today has increased. What has proven to be the main reason for wanting to start is friends, says Inga-Lill Askersjö.
