A Pause for Health and a Farewell to Childish Gambino
Glover’s appearance at the ceremony comes after a period of health challenges that led to the cancellation of his 2024 tour. Last October, he announced the difficult decision, explaining he sought medical attention after a show in New Orleans.
Further testing revealed the need for surgery and a period of recovery. “It became clear I would not perform that night,” he explained in a social media statement. “After more tests, I could not perform the rest of the U.S. tour in the time asked.”
The tour, which began in August 2024, was slated to run through february 2025, with his final performance taking place on September 7, 2024. This tour also held another layer of meaning: Glover had previously indicated it would be his final outing as Childish gambino.
He articulated this decision in a recent interview with The New York Times, stating the persona had simply run it’s course. “It really was just like, ‘Oh, it’s done,'” he explained. “It’s not fulfilling. And I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore.”
