Liberation Pop, this year for the 44th time, is as always the largest event in Haarlem. The oldest and most famous May 5 festival in the Netherlands opens its doors at 12 noon in Haarlemmerhout. Hunk (winner of the Rob Acda Award), Kraantje Pappie, Merol, Wende and Danny Vera will perform until midnight. The highlight is the performance of Chef’Special. The band around frontman Joshua Nolet will appear on the main stage at 10 p.m.
New is the Freedom Stage, a mix of the Freedom Square and the Dreefplein Stage.
On the Flea Field at Entrance B, this place is the heart of young people between the ages of 16 and 25 with a program of DJs, emerging talent and EDM. There is a side program to celebrate freedom. There will also be another festival for children with a whirligig, toddler gym, a resistance museum on wheels, a reading tent and old Dutch games.
Be sure to come to Haarlemmerhout on foot, by bike or by public transport. The roads around the festival site are closed to car traffic. The walking route to Bevrijdingspop is indicated from the station. Shared scooters may not be parked on site and cannot be deregistered there.
Zandvoort
A parade of military vehicles can be seen around the Raadhuisplein in Zandvoort between 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., traditionally one of the highlights. For the elderly, the Liberation Bingo in Theater De Krocht is something to look forward to.
Bloemendaal
Bloemendaal is organizing a freedom celebration in the Dorpskerk at 10.30 am. Afterwards, the visitors raise a toast to freedom. During lunch, new Bloemendaler Rob Oudkerk tells his freedom story. Oudkerk’s grandfather was one of the chairmen of the Jewish Council during the war.
Heemstede
Heemstede celebrates the liberation with a lunch for Heemsteden residents on Julianaplein.
