The qualification session saw Kulichenko clear 1.80 meters, 1.84 meters, 1.88 meters, and 1.91 meters without a single miss, sharing the top position in the standings with seven other competitors who also mastered the 1.91-meter barrier. According to competition records, the 1.91-meter clearance matched her best performance of the outdoor summer season, earning her an equal season-best (=SB) marker in the official protocols.
Working alongside assistant coach Marco Facinotti in Birmingham, Kulichenko navigated her first senior European Championships with precision. Following the qualifying rounds, athletic representatives noted that the 24-year-old jumper expressed readiness to raise the bar even higher as she prepares for the next stage of the competition. Her absolute personal best remains 1.97 meters, a national record for Cyprus that she established in 2024 following her switch in sports citizenship.
The upcoming women’s high jump final, scheduled for Saturday, August 15, features an expanded roster. Because a total of 15 athletes successfully cleared the 1.91-meter qualification standard, tournament organizers increased the standard finalist capacity to accommodate the exceptional field. Among Kulichenko’s competitors in the final round will be world record-holder Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who also advanced through the qualification hurdles.
While Kulichenko advanced smoothly, her compatriot Styliana Ioannidou experienced a different outcome in the qualification phase. Ioannidou successfully cleared heights past 1.75 meters and 1.80 meters but was unable to clear the 1.84-meter threshold, ultimately finishing 28th overall with a best mark of 1.80 meters. Trained by Kyriacos Ioannidou, the young Cypriot jumper has maintained a steady presence in international competition over the past two seasons, including an appearance at the 2025 World Championships.
