Greater Bangalore Authority Elections to be Held After May 25, Will Utilize Ballot Papers
The Karnataka Election Commission has indicated that elections for the Greater Bangalore Authority are likely to be held after May 25th. These elections will be conducted using ballot papers,a decision made amidst ongoing objections from the Congress party regarding the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at both the state and national levels, following their implementation in previous Bruhat Bengaluru mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections.
karnataka’s chief Electoral Officer, G.S. Sangreshi, clarified the commission’s stance on the election process and the use of ballot papers. Addressing a special intensive revision (SIR) specifically for the GBA elections,he stated,”For this SIR,we are following the same process. We are correcting the list, their names and details.”
Regarding the decision to employ ballot papers, Sangreshi explained, “These GBA elections will be conducted through ballot papers. The Supreme Court has also stated that there is nothing wrong with using ballot papers. In GBA as well, there is a provision to use them.”
He further emphasized that, similar to the autonomous decision-making authority of the Election Commission of India, the State Election Commission also possesses the right to make its own determinations.
