Fabio Gstrein ⁣Wins Silver in Olympic Slalom,Securing‍ Austria‘s First Individual Alpine Medal

Fabio Gstrein has secured the first individual alpine skiing medal for the Austrian men at the Olympic Winter Games in Italy, winning silver in the slalom (+0.35 seconds). The 28-year-old ‍Tyrolean finished behind Switzerland’s Loic Meillard, who claimed the gold medal and ‍completed a full medal set at the Games.‍ Norway’s Atle Lie⁢ McGrath, who ⁢led after ⁤the first run, unfortunately did not finish the second run. Henrik Kristoffersen of Norway took the bronze medal.

Austria had been hoping for an individual medal in the men’s alpine events, and Gstrein’s performance prevented a⁤ repeat of the 2010 Winter Olympics in Whistler, where Austrian men failed to medal in any of the five ‍individual alpine ⁢events (including the combined event).

Manuel Feller, considered a pre-race favorite,⁣ did not advance to the second run. Michael Matt finished eighth, and Marco Schwarz placed tenth.

Adding to Austria’s medal count ⁤is a silver ⁣medal won in the team parallel mixed event by Vincent Kriechmayr and Manuel Feller.
