A father in Norwegian Ål is suspected of having killed his family and then shot himself.

The police have now released the names of the victims.

Signe, 18, Sander, 22, and Ingunn Slaatten, 53 were found dead in their home last Saturday.

The police received a report of concern at 3pm last Saturday. The teenage daughter in the family had arranged to meet a friend – but never showed up. The police went to the family’s residence to check the situation but decided not to enter.

– It is not the case that the police directly enter a residence based on such a report, says Ann Iren Svane Mathiassen at the South Eastern Police District to Verdens Gang.

Found dead

But during the evening, they still haven’t heard anything from the family. At 8 p.m., the police enter the apartment. All four are found dead there. Two of them in two different rooms, according to information to VG. On Tuesday afternoon, the Norwegian police released the identity of the three victims, reports VG.

The preliminary autopsy shows that they all died instantly. Norwegian police are now investigating the incident as a murder and suicide.

They believe the father killed his family and then took his own life.

Weapons seized

Ann Iren Svane Mathiassen states that everything indicates that the victims were shot while they were sleeping. There are no signs of an altercation.

The police have seized several weapons in the home, including a firearm believed to be connected to the incident. One of the motives the police are investigating is a conflict between the parents.

Last Friday, Sander, 22, brought a cake to work. His birthday was on Monday and he wanted to celebrate with his colleagues. The next day he was dead.

– He was such a natural spreader of joy. A guy with a smile on his face, who always had a good mood and came up with funny things, says the man’s boss, Finn Arne Sundbrei to VG.

Sidsel Katralen is the defense lawyer for the suspected dead man. She explains to NRK that you have the right to a defense even though you are dead. Above all, she has a control function.

– And then my job will be to follow the investigation, she says.

The death in Ål is the fourth case within six months in Norway when more people in a family die.
