According to RDS, weather complications and subsequent schedule adjustments pushed the opening match for Montreal’s Félix Auger-Aliassime to Wednesday evening on the Central Court, slated for no earlier than 7 p.m. The Canadian arrives at the tournament as the second seed and the fourth-ranked player in the world, marking a career-first seeding position for him at the event.
Auger-Aliassime Faces Droguet in Montreal Night Session
Auger-Aliassime takes on French qualifier Titouan Droguet, who currently occupies the 119th spot in the world rankings, according to RDS reporting. The two players previously met at the ATP 250 tournament in Montpellier earlier in the year, where Auger-Aliassime defeated Droguet in three sets with scores of 6-4, 6-7, and 6-1 during the semifinal round. Droguet’s most notable result against a top-ranked player in 2026 came at the ATP Challenger event in Bordeaux in May, where he overcame his compatriot Terence Atmane, ranked 46th globally.
The local favorite aims to reverse a challenging home-tournament trend. RDS notes that Auger-Aliassime has not advanced past the first round of the Omnium Banque Nationale since 2022, when his run ended in the quarterfinals against Norway’s Casper Ruud. During the 2025 edition, Hungary’s Fabian Marozsan eliminated him in straight sets in his opening match, a fate he also suffered the previous year against Italian Fabio Cobolli in Montreal.
Monfils Returns to Central Court Against Tien
Veteran French player Gaël Monfils continues his appearance schedule in Montreal following a straight-sets victory over Poland’s Kamil Majchrzak, winning 6-4, 6-4 in his opening match. RDS reports that Monfils, active on the ATP circuit since 2004, is playing in Canada for the 13th time. His career-best results at the tournament occurred in 2016 and 2019, reaching the semifinals on both occasions before falling to future tournament champions Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal, respectively.
In the final match of Wednesday’s Central Court session, Monfils will test himself against American Learner Tien, the tournament’s 12th seed. Meanwhile, the tournament field also features top-tier competitors including Alexander Zverev, who enters Montreal as the top favorite. Zverev previously claimed the Omnium Banque Nationale title in Montreal in 2017 by defeating Denis Shapovalov in the semifinals and Roger Federer in the final.
Fernandez and Cross Lead Canadian Presence in Toronto
Over in Toronto, Leylah-Annie Fernandez opens her tournament schedule during the Wednesday evening session on the Central Court, according to RDS. Seeded 30th, Fernandez faces Mexican player Renata Zarazua, ranked 73rd globally. Zarazua made a single prior appearance at the Omnium Banque Nationale during the tournament last year in Montreal, where Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko eliminated her in the second round.
Head-to-head records favor the Canadian. RDS notes that Fernandez secured victories in two previous encounters against Zarazua in Lexington and Acapulco back in 2020, winning both matches in straight sets. Fernandez looks to improve upon her Toronto exit, where Australia’s Maya Joint knocked her out in the first round in Montreal last year. Her best tournament finish remains a run to the round of 16 in 2023.
Kayla Cross stands as the only other Canadian woman remaining in the singles draw. Playing earlier in the day at 11 a.m. on the Grandstand, Cross meets American Ann Li in the second round. Cross advanced by defeating British player and world No. 72 Katie Boulter in the first round, marking her first main-draw victory at the tournament as a qualifier. A win could pit Cross against second seed and world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the third round.
