FEMININE HYGIENE – Menstruation discussed

Promoting open discussion about periods was the ultimate goal of an event titled “My First Rules,” which was held at IKM Antsahavola on Saturday, March 23. This is an initiative of the NGO MPS or “My Period Station” to raise awareness, educate and advocate on menstruation issues.

Expenses related to menstrual products constitute an additional burden for women. These expenses include water supply costs, sanitary napkins and soaps. This is a burden that contributes to increasing economic inequality and prevents women from being self-sufficient. According to a study carried out by the NGO in 2022, women spend on average 84,000 ariary per year on sanitary napkins, while 81% of the Malagasy population lives on less than 10,000 ariary per day according to the World Bank.

The use of economical and ecological towels is recommended in order to reduce expenses and ensure favorable intimate hygiene for menstruating people.
