Striking statement in 90 Minutes. Sam Kerkhofs suddenly said that “there is no food in Antwerp because the cooks were not paid”. Sources confirm to Sporza that there was effectively a short strike. Yet another sign that there are still financial problems.

Not many rosy financial stories around Antwerp in recent months.

In mid-January it was leaked that the end-of-year bonuses and invoices of self-employed people were not paid out due to “temporary cash flow problems” and four months later the consequences are still being felt.

Sam Kerkhofs makes a remarkable statement in the latest 90 Minutes: “You hear that there is no food in Antwerp. The chefs have not been paid for months and stopped working. There is a lot that is not right behind the scenes.”

Inquiries by our editors show that the chefs actually stopped work for a few days during the play-offs after invoices had remained unpaid for months. This resulted in a reduced range.

In Antwerp they contradict those stories.

The Great Old reportedly makes its payments to permanent employees – which is a necessity to obtain the license.

Chairman Paul Gheysens, whose real estate company is going through financial difficulties, injected new capital into the club in mid-January.

But that seems far from solving all the problems.
