On Wednesday morning, several municipalities in Picardy Wallonia experienced a new episode of flooding. The villages of Ogy, Hellebecq, Marcq, Flobecq, Wodecq, Celles and Velaines are particularly affected. The Wapi rescue zone intervened almost everywhere on its territory, notably also near Frasnes-lez-Anvaing, in Tournaisis, etc.

In the middle of the day, the flow rates are increasing on the Dendre, indicates the Hydrométrie en Wallonie website. The Dendre basin was the only one considered to be in an alert situation. “The situation is being closely monitored in consultation with the IRM. Caution is advised around rivers where rapid variations in flow and levels may be observed.”

Fueled by the precipitation of recent hours, the flow rates of the tributaries of the Scheldt are also increasing this Wednesday, and certain pre-alert thresholds on these small rivers have been crossed or could be crossed in the coming hours, which could lead to minor localized overflows. According to the latest meteorological and hydrological forecasts, the flood warning thresholds are not expected to be reached.

Along the villages bordering the A8 (Tournai-Brussels motorway), water runs off agricultural plots overlooking the road. A phenomenon that occurs when precipitation is significant.

On Wednesday morning, firefighters from the Picardy Wallonia emergency zone carried out around forty interventions for flooded cellars or roads. In Tournaisis, the Gaurain-Ramecroix industrial road was for a moment under water, making truck traffic impossible.

Several areas of the Frasnes-lez-Anvaing region already have problems. Part of the RN60 was under water, especially that located between the motorway exit and the crossroads with the Drève d’Anvaing. Rue Contrepré was blocked because the Rhosnes had come out of its bed. Other roads were under water, indicated the municipal administration of Frasnes-lez-Anvaing, whose municipal services were on the roads to resolve the problems as best they could.

The decline should begin at the beginning of the afternoon. If the villages bordering the A8 are affected by this rainy episode, other municipalities are also affected, “but on a smaller scale than the floods which took place at the beginning of January”, confirms the environment department of the municipality of Celles.
