Floods in the Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul have already killed 75 people and 101 people are still missing, describing The Guardian.

In addition, the state civil defense office said more than 80,000 people had to leave their homes after the southern state of Brazil faced record flooding. Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva arrived in Rio Grande do Sul on Sunday, along with most of his cabinet, to discuss rescue and reconstruction efforts with local authorities.

Rescuers continue to race against time to save people from raging floods and mudslides. Using four-wheel-drive vehicles and sometimes jet skis, rescuers waded through the water to search for those trapped by the rising water.

In a video released by the Brazilian government on the X social network, a helicopter is seen dropping a soldier onto the roof of a house, who then punches a hole in the roof and rescues the child wrapped in a blanket.

“Armed forces aircraft continue to actively search for and rescue stranded, injured or missing persons. Despite the adverse weather conditions, rescue operations are ongoing day and night,” the post reads.
