Maastricht,Netherlands – Gianni Vermeersch (UAE Team Emirates-XRG) etched his name into gravel cycling history on Saturday,claiming the UCI Gravel World Championship title in a thrilling solo performance.The Belgian rider launched a decisive attack on a punishing climb, leaving his breakaway companion behind and riding powerfully to victory in Limburg.

As he approached the finish on the Groene Loper path, Vermeersch confirmed his victory. “Yeah, I looked behind and I didn’t see the second guy anymore, so I was pretty sure that it [the win] was in the pocket,” he said, beaming with pride while wearing his gold medal and champion’s jersey.
