The prosecutor of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, reported the arrest of former assistant prosecutor Daniel Velásquez and practicing lawyer Víctor Bueno, who extorted detainees by offering supposed freedom.

Through a publication on the social network X, Saab detailed that those arrested demanded three hundred thousand dollars from a person with an ongoing criminal investigation.

“Former Assistant Prosecutor Daniel Velásquez and practicing Lawyer Víctor Bueno (who acted as an accomplice of the former official in his misdeeds) were apprehended to be charged by the Public Ministry: for the crimes of extortion and conspiracy, these subjects demanded the payment of 300,000 dollars, to favor a person who is linked to an ongoing criminal investigation, criminally offering him a “hypothetical freedom” in exchange for said sum of money,” the message says.

“The Public Ministry under our management maintains a permanent and relentless fight against any corrupt official of our honorable institution (which enjoys a high level of popular credibility) who intends to use his position to commit a crime, from August 2017 to date. We have prosecuted 420 members for various corruption crimes,” he concluded.
