Four Bulgarian citizens of Turkish origin, including two children, died in a fire in the German city of Solingen, Turkish private television NTV reported, recalling another case in the same city more than 30 years ago, in which five ethnic Turks died in an arson attack by neo-Nazis. BTA reported.

The Consulate General of Turkey in Düsseldorf insisted on an investigation and clarification of the nature of yesterday’s fire as soon as possible.

According to NTV, the fire broke out in a four-story building in Solingen, where four people from the same family, including two children, died, and nine others were injured.

The police indicated that the fire started for an unknown reason in an old building in the local district of Höscheid. According to the fire service, the flames started on the second floor of the building and spread to the attic floor where the family was sleeping.

The deceased are Bulgarian citizens of Turkish origin, NTV said.

“We wish the mercy of Allah to our Turkish compatriots from Bulgaria, who lost their lives in the fire that broke out at dawn yesterday (March 25, ed.) in the apartment where they lived in Solingen, condolences to their bereaved relatives and a speedy recovery victims. We strongly hope that the nature of the fire in question will be investigated and clarified as soon as possible. In this regard, our Consulate General will continue to liaise with the relevant authorities,” the Consulate General of the Republic of Turkey in Düsseldorf wrote yesterday in post on your social media profile.

NTV and other Turkish media recall in the context of this case the tragedy of May 29, 1993 in Solingen, Germany, when four German neo-Nazis set fire to the house of a family of Turkish origin, resulting in the death of five family members.
