The royal family arrived in Middelburg around 10:30 am. Most of the spectators outside had come to see them. During the ceremony in the Nieuwe Kerk they saw that outgoing Prime Minister Mark Rutte presented the International Four Freedoms Award to Save Ukraine. This is a charity that is committed to returning kidnapped Ukrainian children from Russia and the occupied territories to Ukraine.

The Four Freedoms Awards have been presented since 1982. One year in Middelburg, the next in New York. They were created to honor the four freedoms that President Roosevelt of the United States declared in 1941. Awards for freedom of expression, freedom of religion, freedom from want and freedom from fear were also presented during the ceremony. Roosevelt’s ancestors came from Oud-Vossemeer, hence the choice for Zeeland.
