Sid is on trial for raping a woman in September 2016. He was found guilty in 2019 and given a 24-month prison sentence, but he appealed. So on Thursday he heard how an additional two years were demanded against him.

The appeal was postponed twice. On March 7, the case was adjourned because the defense had requested to hear witnesses. The case was then scheduled to be heard on December 6, but was postponed to March 28. The reason for this was the death of Sid’s father, shortly before the hearing. In addition, it was previously announced that the lawyer of Kroes’ husband, Gerald Roethof, had resigned from his job. The Amsterdam court expected that Sid would have a new lawyer, but this turned out not to be the case today.

The Public Prosecution Service pointed out to Sid his ‘extremely arrogant attitude’ in court, because he repeatedly refused to respond to questions because he does not have a lawyer. “I admire the universe, I admire humanity. I would never hurt a fly,” was his response after the sentence was imposed.

Rens Kroes and Sid have been together for about sixteen years. At the end of 2020, they had a daughter together, Maya Jade. At the court, Sid indicated that they have plans to emigrate to Africa. After the sentence was imposed, the Court deliberated on imprisonment, because the Advocate General was afraid of the risk of flight to Ivory Coast. That has decided that Sid must go to prison immediately. The verdict will be announced on April 11.
