U.S. Coast Guard Intercepts 14 Mexican Nationals Off California Coast
Point Loma, CA – The U.S.Coast Guard intercepted a vessel carrying fourteen individuals identified as Mexican nationals approximately 18 miles west of Point Loma, California, on Friday afternoon, authorities announced Sunday.
according to U.S. coast guard officials, the crew of the Forrest Rednour detected the vessel at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Friday. A boarding team was deployed to investigate, leading to the interception of the 20-foot cuddy cabin and its occupants.
All fourteen individuals aboard the vessel claimed Mexican nationality. Following the interception, the Coast Guard boarding team transferred custody of the individuals to a boat crew from Coast Guard Station San Diego.
The individuals were afterward transported to ballast Point and handed over to another agency within the U.S.Department of Homeland Security for further investigation. No injuries were reported during the operation,and authorities have not released additional details at this time.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of the U.S.Coast Guard and Department of Homeland Security to maintain border security and enforce maritime laws off the California coast.
